Virology is quite a new field which I feel is an important subject to depict and understand. Viruses have ecological consequences that effect all of us, the plant and animal kingdom. They dont just cause disease in people.

We are vunerable momculture. Virology is an extra-ordinary universe that I tried to depict through the medium of painting. I created these paintings from original images of microelectronic photography, which were taken in labs. Images that were kindly donated to me from Centre for Disease Control, Atlanta. US. Professor J D Barry, Molecular Parasitology.

I enlarged these images on to MDF. They are highly synethetic in a Warhol fashion. Where as Warhol relied on technicians I had a reliance on Microbiologists and their tools. There is the element of distance involved, perhaps there will always be this distance in the process of creating a deadly virus.

The Ecoli painting is built up with meticulous layers of gloss paint with finely built up dots raised on the surface which are contained in transparent resin. I painted repetitive images of Diarrhoea. I was astonished to find out that 3.2 millon children die of these viruses each year. I have produced more than one of these paintings as I was interested in thinking about the viruses method of replication.
